The Golden dove is endemic to Fiji and is found on Viti levu, Ovalau, Gau and some of the Yasawa islands. They forage for small wild fruits and berries and the odd caterpillar. They have the strangest of calls, like the yap of a young dog. They also utter a low, hoarse growl. The adult male is a striking dove with lemon-yellow plumage and an olive head. The female remains greenish with slight yellow coloration along the leading edge of the wings. Both sexes have a green bill and green feet and legs. |
